the answers we give most often are below. if you don't see your question, the form on our contact page goes straight to a real person.
what is the stone made of?
compressed diatomaceous earth — fossilised remains of microscopic algae, bonded into a stone-like surface. food-safe, naturally absorbent, and entirely free of plastics, silicones, or coatings.
how does it absorb water so quickly?
diatomite has millions of microscopic pores. water disappears into them on contact, then evaporates back out as the stone air-dries. it's why a wet patch is gone before you've turned around.
will it crack?
diatomite is dense but brittle. dropped on a hard floor, it can chip. handled with reasonable care — placed gently, lifted with two hands when wet — it lasts indefinitely. damage from a hard drop or rough handling isn't covered, so treat it like a ceramic plate, not a rubber mat.
if it arrives cracked or chipped in the box, that's on us — send one photo within 7 days and we'll replace it free.
how do i clean it?
rinse under cool water. air dry. if it ever feels glazed or slow to absorb, sand lightly with the included pad. dishwasher safe on the top rack.
what sizes does it come in?
large is 80 × 50 cm — fits two bowls and a generous splash zone. small is 60 × 39 cm — sized for one bowl, narrow hallways, and apartments. both ship in four interlocking pieces.
where do you ship?
united states, united kingdom, and australia. free shipping over the local threshold — $130 in the us, $150 usd in the uk and au. otherwise a $9.99 flat rate.
how long does shipping take?
us orders ship in 1–2 business days and arrive in 3–8 days. international orders take 5–14 business days depending on customs.
what's your return policy?
30 days. if it's not for you, send it back for a full refund. unused, in the original packaging, no return-shipping fee.
is it safe for puppies, cats, and other animals?
yes. food-grade diatomaceous earth is non-toxic and inert. the stone has no coating, no glue, no chemicals. it's an object — not a treat — so don't let anyone chew on it.
do the bowls come with the mat?
sold separately, but they're sized to sit on the stone perfectly. we offer the small combo and the large combo for a $19 or $22 saving vs. buying individually — and you can add a second bowl at 15% off.
